Don Imus will meet with the young women of the Rutgers basketball team and personally apologize for hurting them. These women say he doesn’t know them. I hope they will get to know the work Imus does and the man he is.

Do you really want to join the witchhunt to silence this man?

If you don’t think Imus himself is the butt of sarcasm and bad jokes, just take a look at his official biography on MSNBC: LINK

Yes, but why does he have to talk trashy.

Is his goodness a penance for his trashiness?

There are limits and he reached them.

Airth10: You are right: Imus reached his limit with his comments about a team of young athletes. He knows it. I have watched Imus and his crew since they joined MSNBC. Much that they do is entertaining and informative, and God knows it doesn't hurt to start the day in today's world with a few laughs. Certainly his good deads do not ameliorate the harm he did the girls, BUT, as with everything, context and perspective are important. Particularly when a man's life work, livelihood and reputation are at stake. Essentially, Imus is doing what he's been paid to do for some 30 years. Despite the off-color comments on his show, Don Imus has class. Regular viewers and guests know this. I just think its wrong that the media is using this situation to sell air time, because conflict sells. Almost as good as Anna Nicole Smith for ratings. As for talking trashy, I've heard worse on deadline in a daily newspaper newsroom! :-) BJ

Don Imus did not father Anna Nicole's baby. Don Imus did not start a war. Don Imus did not lie to the Congress of the United States. Don Imus did not take insider information in order to make money.
The people who did are still on TV, and nobody suspended them for two weeks. Only one of the above has even spent a day in jail.
Frodo condemns what Imus said. Frodo thinks the bigger question is, "Where's Joe Lieberman?" More than anything else, all this folderol is a great case study in analyzing friendship, and who is there through thick and thin, good times and bad. If we learn nothing else, maybe we'll learn something about ourselves.

At this point Imus is being used as the poster boy - the whipping boy, of limitations, of when enough is enough. He, in a sense, was in the wrong place at the right time.

When is Bush going to reach this point of enough is enough?

Who knows, maybe Imus will come roaring back, better than ever.

Tom DeLay has been all over TV calling liberals and Democrats "Nazis". Who ya gonna call?

Nobody takes Delay seriously any more. Anyway, calling someone a Nazi has no bite to it anymore. That name is bandied around like fascist. It means little. (How about the Soup Nazi? Didn't that get a laugh?)

Delay would love to get the attention Don Imus is getting. He loves to be a lightening rod. But as a politician he also knows the limits on what he can call people. And you have to pick on somebody your own size. Democrats can easily take on Delay.

Imus was picking on people that were not his size and that was part of his problem.

My two cents,

I think the IMUS incident is beneficial if it generates real discussion and real reform about heartlessness in general from one individual or group directed at another individual or group.

I don't think he should be suspended or fired. I think the discussion should continue and all people who lower themselves by using below the belt remarks that denigrate and demean others for any reason should become more aware of the effect words have and those people should be inclined to limit and eliminate the rhetoric.

The message we need to get to all the talking heads and advertisers is: What they are doing to Imus is punishing those who Imus has spent so much time and money helping.

Imus was not given the chance to meet with the Rutgers group and work things out with them.

I want to see the same bunch raise hell and get Rush Limbaugh fired for mocking the group of folks who suffer from Parkinson's Disease. Do they think this didn't hurt and degrade those unfortunate people as well as others who have disabilities? Most are not physically able to do a march themselves. The Rutgers are. And Sharpton and Jackson and the talking heads aren't going to do a march in their behalf.

I could list a numerous other names, but everyone already knows them. They are on every TV network and countless radio air waves. I think we should circulate BJ's list of "Imus Good Deeds" to let the everyone know just how wide their damage reverberates.
